The chair, Peter Grose, RESEC, welcomed delegates to the seminar and gave an introduction to what RESEC and Lester Aldridge did.

Speakers

  • Geoff Hodgson, Editor, Caring Times spoke on the challenges for providers in following good practice and what the future may hold.
  • Dr Jane Murphy, Associate Professor, Bournemouth University (BU) gave an overview of research and educational activities at Bournemouth University Dementia Institute (BUDI) as well as her own research on nutrition and dementia care.The  keynote speaker, Dr Jane Murphy, is an Associate Professor at Bournemouth University (BU) and a Registered Nutritionist and Dietician. She is leading the BU Dementia Institute (BUDI) on research and education across Health and Social Care for people living with dementia. She is also Clinical Lead for the Older Person Nutrition Programme – Wessex Academic Health Sciences Network. She leads research and evidence-based education on improving nutritional health and wellbeing. She  specialises in age-related conditions, including the complex problems faced by people living with dementia. She has led a highly successful research project on understanding nutrition and delivering dignity in dementia care (funded by the Burdett Trust for Nursing) and evaluated the educational outputs of the research (workbook and training film).   • Mel Knight, CEO, Castleoak –gave an insight into what he looks for when being commissioned to build a care home and included practical examples of property developments and property considerations relating to those with dementia. Geoff Hodgson further started the discussion on advanced directive. A stimulated discussion followed.
  • Peter Grose asked the participates if they had notices any change in services following the Brexit.
  • A free discussion followed on the role of the regulator and quality ratings.
  • Bhavna Keane-Rao, thanked Lester Aldridge for hosting this seminar and the speakers for providing such stimulating presentations.
